Amazon, not e-logs, seen disrupting truckload business
Truckload carriers and their shipper customers should be more worried about e-commerce than e-logging. The distribution and fulfillment demands of Amazon.com will significantly disrupt traditional long-haul truckload shipping, and many carriers don’t see it coming, a transportation analyst said at the Transplace Shipper Symposium here Wednesday.
Truckload carriers “look at the electronic logging mandate as the only thing going on,” Thom Albrecht, president of Sword & Sea Transport Advisors, told more than 150 shippers at the three-day logistics event. “They should be more concerned about the loss of shipments to e-commerce. I can’t tell you how many carriers I talk to that are like deer in the headlights.”
