The biggest challenge IPG faces today is retailer demands. For example, IPG ships water activated tape directly to every fulfillment center globally for one of the largest e-commerce retailers. In the U.S. alone, the e-commerce retailer has between 175-200 locations and each location has a person designated to buy IPG tape for their site. The designated buyer can order three to four pallets of tape today and can expect it to deliver tomorrow. IPG is challenged to forecast accurate production and ship orders from their plant to a regional warehouse with multiple 3PL relationships. IPG needed a partner that could provide velocity through the system, better link their multiple 3PL relationships and get the job done with the same tracking ability that leading e-commerce retailers provide for their customers.
With a long-standing relationship with Transplace, IPG leaned on the trusted partner during their October to December peak season. Transplace and IPG have been working collaboratively to further automate the relationship with the e-commerce retailer by limiting manual work to help reduce the headcount needed for the account. With the Transplace TMS, the IPG team has several templates that allow users to look at the promise date, estimated delivery date, customer location, and the status of every shipment for a quick view of what is past due or due today. This feature of the Transplace TMS has been critical in getting the IPG team focused on the right things in order to make critical improvements. For example, if there is a snow storm forecasted, IPG will have time to transfer inventory to an alternate warehouse to mitigate and proactively manage supply chain delays.
