Transportation TIP List: Week of May 21, 2017
Posted - May 24, 2017
Over the past few weeks, stories surrounding technology services, software and security have taken up much of the supply chain news bandwidth. This week’s TIP List includes a few of these buzzy tech trends, such as the release of the Uber Freight app, the recent WannaCry ransomware attack and the impact of real-time load tracking for carriers. We’re serving up the latest in our high-tech list below!
- The WannaCry Cyberattack: Another Warning for Supply Chain Executives: The WannaCry cyberattack is a warning for supply chain executives to stop being complacent. The sooner companies embed supply chain risk management within their corporate DNA, the sooner they’ll be able to adequately address the growing threat of cyberattacks.
- Uber in Now in the Trucking Business: ‘Press a Button, Get a Load’: Uber recently announced that it is launching Uber Freight, an app that connects professional truck drivers with shippers looking to transport big loads over long distances.
- Real-Time Load Tracking: At What Price?: Truckers are increasingly expected to reassure shippers and receivers that every load will be delivered successfully and on time. Real-time track and trace technology and live load visibility could be a standard offering for carriers in order to keep customers happy.
- Trump Administration’s Push to Revamp NAFTA Faces a Divided Congress: The Trump administration recently took the first step toward renegotiating NAFTA. U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said the administration would start talks on the 23-year-old deal in as few as 90 days.
- It’s “Beyond Time” to Modernize U.S. Infrastructure: The lack of U.S. infrastructure modernization is causing an increase of expensive bottlenecks at ports, cities and elsewhere – and these bottlenecks are responsible for expensive delays in an increasingly-complex worldwide market.
What safety measures do you have in place to keep your organization secure in the event of a cyberattack?
