- Amazon Buys Whole Foods: Will Brick-and-Mortar Retail Ever Be the Same?: There had been speculation that Amazon had recently been looking at a number of different brick-and-mortar retail stores to acquire. But it was still a surprise last week when Amazon bought Whole Foods in a $13.7 billion deal.
- Transportation Network Optimization in the “Amazon Effect” Era: Efficient transportation management with end-to-end visibility is becoming more and more vital to a company’s supply chain and its overall success. And as e-commerce and omni-channel fulfillment service pressures continue to mount, transportation managers are faced with more challenges.
- With Supreme Court Blow to ELD Legal Challenge, Mandate Has No Roadblocks Remaining: The U.S. Supreme Court recently delivered a death blow to the OOIDA’s legal challenge to the U.S. DOT’s ELD mandate. With the high court’s rejection, the lawsuit will not go any further.
- U.S. Exports to Mexico Fall as Uncertainty Over NAFTA Lingers: Friction between the U.S. and Mexico over trade is starting to cut into sales for U.S. farmers and agricultural companies, adding uncertainty for an industry already struggling with low commodity prices and excess supply.
- House Lawmakers Push for Highway Trust Fund Fix: More than 250 House lawmakers want to see a fix for the ailing Highway Trust Fund included in any tax reform package this year. The fund, which distributes money around the country for transportation projects, is financed by federal fuel taxes that haven’t been raised in more than 20 years.
