With both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions upon us, we would like to nominate some trending industry candidates with impressive platforms for our weekly TIP List. This week, our votes go to standout stories such as the ELD mandate, the Panama Canal and robots in manufacturing.

- Panama Canal Retakes Market Share From Suez as Battle for Asia-USEC Traffic Heats Up: Following the inauguration of the Panama Canal’s new lock system at the end of last month, the waterway is already winning back market share from Suez in the fight to attract container cargo moving from Asia to the US east coast.
- FDA Finalizes Food Facility Registration Rule Under FSMA: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) finalized a rule as part of the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) to improve the accuracy of the food facility registration.
- Robots Eye Jobs in Food Service, Manufacturing: Managers and dental hygienists: your jobs are safe. Safe from robots, anyway. A McKinsey & Co. report says those jobs are among the least likely to be automated in the next decade.
- Logistics Report Card: Which States Made the Grade?: The 2016 Manufacturing & Logistics Report Card shows how each state ranks among its peers in several categories that are of particular interest to site selection experts for logistics. The researchers included total logistics industry income as a share of total state income, and employment per capita.
- Global NG Fuel Stations Expected to Approach 39,300 by 2026: A new report from Navigant Research examines the global market for the deployment of natural gas (NG) refueling infrastructure. Low crude oil prices have put pressure on the market for natural gas vehicles (NGVs) and the corresponding refueling infrastructure.
