- Trucking Firms Large and Small Urged to Think Electric: Regional trucking firms should take a good long look at electric trucks, experts in the industry recently said. And a lack of planning could be problematic if trucking firms don’t start looking at electrification soon.
- Gartner Identifies the Top 8 Supply Chain Technology Trends in 2019: Gartner’s top strategic supply chain technology trends have broad industry impact, but have not yet been widely adopted. They might be experiencing significant changes or reaching critical tipping points in capability or maturity.
- ATA Reports Mixed Trucking Tonnage Volumes for March: The ATA’s advanced seasonally-adjusted For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index for March, at 113.2 was down 2.3%, following a 1.5% February decline, to 115.8.
- Trucking Business Conditions Continue to Tumble, FTR Index Shows: FTR’s Trucking Conditions Index fell in February to a reading of 1.71, its lowest reading since August 2017. The historically high demand for trucking services continues to fall from its record highs of 2018, and is quickly nearing neutral territory where supply and demand will be balanced.
- Big U.S. Truckload Operators Drive Profits Despite Slowing Volume: The largest U.S. truckload carriers are boosting profitability and gaining freight despite an overall downward trend in shipping volumes, according to SJ Consulting Group. Some of those carriers are also lowering earnings expectations, however, as 2019 shapes up to be a slower, softer year than 2018.
