Transplace Introduces Preferred Shipper Checklist
Checklist Scores Key Areas to Achieving “Preferred Shipper” Status from Transportation Carriers and Drive Supply Chain Efficiency, Truck Driver Optimization and Recruiting
February 2, 2016 (Dallas, TX) Transplace, a leading provider of transportation management services and logistics technology, today announced that it has developed a Preferred Shipper Checklist to help companies better understand the best practices for becoming a shipper of choice for their carrier partners. The industry initiative, in collaboration with Transplace’s customer advisory board and more than 25 carrier partners, identified key factors in how carriers evaluate shippers and translated this insight into an actionable scorecard to help shipper organizations achieve “preferred shipper” status with carriers.
“Shippers are placing added focus on improving their transportation operations, which is making it increasingly important that they align their efforts with their carrier partners in order to improve efficiency and drive overall benefits to all parties,” said Ben Cubitt, senior vice president, engineering & strategic carrier management for Transplace. “Through this industry initiative, we have created a checklist that provides value to both shippers and carriers, especially with consideration to the ongoing truck driver shortage.”
Transplace’s customer advisory board had asked the provider to lead an initiative that would develop a scorecard for shippers to help drive supply chain efficiency, as well as support industry need to recruit and retain truck drivers, which are an increasingly critical supply chain resource. Due to the ongoing driver shortage, dwell time has become a major factor in determining the preference status of a shipper, and treating drivers with respect and as a valuable network asset can impact the way the shipper is viewed by an entire carrier organization.
The initiative, built upon Transplace’s 2014 Preferred Shipper Survey, was a collaborative effort, with more than 25 of Transplace’s partner carriers providing valuable insight. Some of the partner carriers include: Conway, J.B. Hunt Transport, Millis Transfer, Landstar, Swift, Team Campbell Logistics, C.R. England, Smith Transport, Dart Transit, Interstate Distributors, Celadon, Knight Transportation, Marten Transportation and J&R Shugel.
“It’s imperative for both carriers and shippers to work collectively on strategies to improve the work experience for the nation’s driver force,” said Brandon Harrison, chief sales officer, C.R. England. “We commend Transplace for taking an industry leading step by developing this comprehensive preferred shipper checklist.”
Added Cubitt, “The driver shortage is becoming a foremost concern for many carriers, and they will reward the most efficient shippers with capacity. This scorecard provides key information that allows carriers and shippers to be partners at every level and work together to optimize truck driver utilization, stimulate further productivity and enhance overall efficiency.”
