Transplace Identifies Key Transportation Trends, Challenges – 3PL’s Leadership Shares Best Practices at Supply Chain Events

February 1, 2011 (Dallas, TX) – With the uncertainty and volatility of the transportation industry, many shippers, carriers, third party logistics providers (3PLs) and consultants are evaluating current market conditions and identifying opportunities to leverage supply chain best practices in order to improve and benchmark their operations. Transplace Senior Vice President, Engineering & Consulting, Ben Cubitt is attending these industry events to engage in strategic discussions with supply chain leaders regarding market projections and strategies for developing efficient and effective supply chains.

Twin Cities CSCMP Roundtable

On February 17 in Minneapolis, Minn., Cubitt will co-present with Jason DeBus, director of transportation for Cummins, on the topic of “Best Practices in Transportation Sourcing” to a group of supply chain executives from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. This presentation will highlight how Cummins and Transplace have successfully worked together to plan, manage and implement procurement events in order to drive superior service and cost performance. Cubitt will also share updates on the truckload market and sourcing best practices from the recent high volume of truckload bids that Transplace has conducted for shippers across many industries.

“With an overwhelming number of shippers putting their freight out to bid in 2011, many transportation professionals are looking to identify the procurement best practices that leading companies use,” said Cubitt. “This roundtable gives us the opportunity to share from our experience and discuss how shippers can modify their bid plans and practices as market conditions change.”

Atlanta 2011 CSCMP Roundtable – Executive Forum

Cubitt recently moderated the second annual CSCMP Executive Forum in Atlanta on January 7.  This forum allows supply chain executives from several global companies based in Atlanta to discuss market trends, challenges and strategies to improve overall supply chain performance. A number of key topics were discussed, such as:

  • Current truckload market capacity and establishing procurement goals for 2011
  • Fuel outlook and strategies for 2011/2012
  • The impact of CSA 2010 on carriers and shippers
  • The role of network optimization in developing a supply chain strategy
  • How shippers can select, manage and measure 3PLs effectively

“Given that most shippers expect next year and the following year to potentially be challenged by truckload capacity, it’s imperative that shippers, carriers and service providers address this issue, among others, and engage in open discussion on solutions,” added Cubitt. “These local roundtables provide an intimate setting for supply chain professionals to share insights, experiences and knowledge, and to learn from their peers.
